What It's Actually Like to Have a Personal Chef in Toronto

You've probably imagined it: opening your fridge on a Monday evening and finding everything already done. Portioned. Labelled. Delicious. No grocery run, no dishes piling up, no "what are we even having tonight" spiral. ‍

That's not a fantasy — it's what a personal chef service in Toronto actually delivers. And it's more accessible than most people think.

I'm Olivia, the chef behind Greens and Dreams, and I want to walk you through what the experience actually looks like from start to finish.

It Starts With a Conversation

Every new client starts with a short introductory call. I want to understand not just what you eat, but how you live. Are you a family trying to get a real dinner on the table on weeknights? An individual managing a health condition or dietary restriction? A couple who loves food but has no time to cook?

I ask about allergies, preferences, things you'd never eat, and things you'd eat every single week if someone made them well. That information shapes everything.

‍The Weekly Menu

A few days before your cook date, I put together a suggested menu based on what's in season, what you've told me you love, and any goals we're working toward — whether that's eating more protein, going gluten-free, or just having more variety.

‍You can adjust anything. More of this, less of that, swap one dish for another. The menu is a starting point, not a contract.

Cook Day

‍On cook day, I arrive at your home, unpack everything, and get to work. Your kitchen becomes a professional kitchen for a few hours. I prep, cook, and store everything — labelled with what it is and how to reheat it.

When I leave, your kitchen is clean. Your fridge is full. You haven't had to think about food for the week.

‍Most clients tell me this is the part that surprises them most: not just the food itself, but the feeling of having that mental load completely lifted.

‍What Gets Made

‍ A typical week might include four to six dishes, designed to work across lunches and dinners throughout the week. Think things like:

  • A pan-seared salmon with lemon-herb dressing and roasted vegetables

  • A big batch of a grain salad that holds well in the fridge

  • Chicken thighs braised with tomatoes and olives, ready to reheat in minutes

  • A nourishing soup that doubles as lunch or a light dinner

  • Something sweet — maybe almond flour muffins or a fruit crumble

Everything is fresh. Nothing comes from a package. And because I'm cooking in your kitchen with your preferences in mind, it actually tastes like food you'd choose for yourself — just made better, and without the effort.

Is It Just for Special Diets?

Not at all — though I do specialize in dietary needs. I founded Greens and Dreams partly because I live with Celiac disease myself, and I know firsthand how hard it is to find food that's both genuinely delicious and safe. Gluten-free, dairy-free, low-FODMAP, diabetic-friendly — I've worked with all of it.

But many of my clients simply want good food and more time. That's reason enough.

Who Hires a Personal Chef in Toronto? ‍

More people than you'd expect. My clients include: ‍

Busy professionals and couples who want to eat well during the week without spending their evenings cooking. They value quality, they're health-conscious, and they've decided their time is worth more than the hours spent meal planning and grocery shopping.

Families who want real, nourishing dinners on the table — not takeout on a Tuesday because nobody had time to cook.

Seniors who want to stay independent, eat well, and have someone thoughtful managing their nutrition. Many of my senior clients have specific health needs, and I tailor every menu accordingly.

People managing health conditions — from food allergies and intolerances to post-surgery recovery or chronic illness — who need to eat in a specific way but don't always have the energy or knowledge to do it consistently.

‍The Practical Part

‍I currently serve clients across Toronto and the GTA, with a focus on neighbourhoods like Rosedale, Forest Hill, Yorkville, Summerhill, and Midtown. Sessions can be weekly, bi-weekly, or as needed.

‍Groceries can be handled by me or by you — whatever works better for your situation.

‍If you've been curious about whether a personal chef might actually fit your life, the best first step is just a conversation. No commitment, no pressure. I'll tell you honestly whether I think it's the right fit.
